Dwarf Fescue
$0.29 per square foot, sold in 9 square foot increments for $2.61 each

Dwarf Fescue is ideal in the hot, dry climate of Northern California. It is ideally suited to the growing conditions found in 'transition zone' areas where neither Bluegrass, Ryegrass or other warm season grasses perform well. It has a Medium-fine blade texture. The rich blue-green color rivals that of Bluegrass. There is a fast fill-in after germination, the dwarf fescue has a high density with excellent early sod formation and superior weed resistance.

This grass has a very high drought and heat tolerance and is better at tolerating cold than perennial Ryegrasses. This turf thrives in sunny locations yet tolerates up to 80% shade (no mildew) at 2-inch mowing height.

Mowing: 1 to 2 times per week at a cutting height of 1.5 to 2.5 inches. The slower growth habits mean reduced mowing requirements and the high density helps this turf keep its freshly mowed appearance longer between mows.

Blue Fescue
$0.29 per square foot, sold in 9 square foot increments for $2.61 each

Blue Fescue is the most common turf grass and is prevalent in California. It is a fast-growing turf that is green the full year around. Fescue sod is generally grown with a blend of three or more varieties in order to increase appearance benefits and decrease vulnerability to disease. Today's varieties have become much more tolerant of sun, heat, watering conditions, and cutting methods. While Fescue is the most shade tolerant of all sod types, it can still become weakened or damaged with too much shade.

The recommended sunlight for Fescue is 4-5 hours per day. This turf is green throughout the year, has a high level of shade tolerance, and grows fast. The fescue does not spread, and requires watering during the warm season.

Blue Rye
$0.29 per square foot, sold in 9 square foot increments for $2.61 each

A Durable Duo of Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrasses work together to provide a dense, upright, spreading turf for nearly any purpose in temperate regions. The medium-green bluegrass and dark-green ryegrasses have superior disease resistance. They combine to provide a carpet-like turf that can be mowed as low as one inch.

West Coast Blue-Rye sod offers the aggressive spreading ability and shade tolerance of semi-dwarf bluegrass with the wear tolerance and rapid recovery of two leading ryegrasses. In many parts of the Southwest, West Coast Blue-Rye stays green and active all winter. West Coast Blue-Rye sod assures strong establishment under both sunny and shady conditions.

Mowing: Weekly mowing between one to three inches encourages density. Avoid long intervals between mowing and always use a mower with sharp blades. Reel mowers will provide a cleaner cut. Core cultivate to encourage deep rooting. Dethatching might be helpful every few years.
